| In the Netherlands more than 700.000 of the 1.3 million seniors of 75 years and plus feel lonely. If we do nothing, figures will rise to about 1.1 million in 2030. During summertime it gets even worse: 1 out of 6 of the elderly feel even more lonely. Relatives and friends are away, local shops and activities are closed or postponed. That limits social contact and creates an even greater feeling of loneliness amongst the elderly. |
