Home Schooling - the future

If we turn the clocks back 12 months, home schooling was something that was not a consideration with most parents but today we have already had too much experience of this, following the various lockdowns due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Parents never asked to become teachers and for most, they would have preferred to leave this to the individuals who had chosen a career in teaching and who were deemed experts in this field. For few, however, they have come to the conclusion that perhaps home schooling your child isn't such a bad thing, with many preferring not to leave their child's education in limbo with uncertainty about what the future holds and the potential of more missed days in education.

All parents have a right to educate their child from home if they wish to do so and the government is currently looking to toughen up on home education plans, to ensure they are working, as they should; especially as it is estimated that there are just under 60,000 home-educated children across 152 local authorities in England. This figure is rising continually, especially since the effect the pandemic has had on education.

There are no grants or funding to help teach your child at home, in fact the Department for Education makes it clear that if you decide to teach your child at home, you will have to take on all financial responsibility related to their education. Your local education authority, may, however be able to offer guidance and advice.

More and more resources are available online, such as BBC Bitesize and another option is seeking the help of an online learning college, where lessons are already prepared ready for parents to supervise.

Whichever, option is chosen, parents should ensure that their child is going to receive a positive learning experience and their education is going to be enhanced, rather than neglected.
