Brief | Psychological violence is everywhere. It is there but remains invisible. It takes place in every social context, at home, at school as well as in the workplace, and it affects women, men and children, without distinction. It is often underestimated, not even recognised by those who suffer it. Little by little its victims lose their personality, become puppets without a soul nor freedom in the hands of the perpetrators of this devious form of violence, which can lead to acute depression and even suicide. From this comes the idea of treating the victims like rag dolls, manipulated through abuse, humiliation, denigration, threats, blackmail and psychological torture. The puppeteers controlling their dolls with their arm is also a veiled metaphor conveying the message that those who suffer from psychological violence have to “take it up the a**”. |
