Mike’s passion for building high-performance teams has made him a sought-after leader in the industry. His track record of being at the forefront of emerging digital advances caught the eye of Zulu Alpha Kilo’s founder, and in 2010, Mike joined the agency. He is one of the first leaders of a mainstream creative agency who grew up fully immersed in the digital space.
Mike started his career at a digital shop leading the strategic development of large- scale digital programs for Molson Coors, Nike, and Coca-Cola. Following that, Mike was head of Client Service at Grip Limited, where he spent five years working on an impressive roster of brands including Expedia, Honda, Acura and Anheuser-Busch. Throughout his career, he has built a reputation as a thought leader in digital, social and non-traditional marketing. Clients love Mike’s calming presence, and he plays a pivotal role in helping them reach their full potential as marketers.
Founder & Chief Creative Officer
Prior to starting Zulu, Zak was CCO & partner at TAXI Canada, where he helped lead the agency to become one of the world’s most awarded shops in the Gunn Report. In 2007, at the height of the agency’s success, Zak quit, and founded his own shop.
Since then, he has been busy building Zulu Alpha Kilo into a globally awarded 130-person independent. In 2016, Zulu was named Ad Age’s Small Agency of the Year, the first time a non-U.S. agency had ever won overall top honours. Zulu repeated as Ad Age’s International Small Agency of the Year in 2017.
Philosophically, Zak firmly believes size and growth is immaterial to an agency’s success. The key to long-term creative and financial health, he says, is to stay true to your creative vision and values no matter how big or small your agency. Having a fearless mentality and being an industry agitator is what continues to drive Zak forward each and every day.
